The fast track to bridging troubled infrastructure

An Oklahoma-based steel company says it has made great strides in bridge construction, and municipalities and rural communities stand to benefit

After three days of prep work, Premier Steel assembled a bridge on the heavily traveled 33rd West Avenue on Friday. While Rome may not have been built in a day, this bridge was.

“This bridge was condemned. It was in bad shape,” said Andy Vanaman, president of Premier Steel. “Because it’s a multi-school bus route and because it’s an emergency vehicle route, they needed it to go in quick.”

Based in Glenpool, Premier Steel used its newly patented “” system to build and install the new 30-foot bridge, which is described as steel-frame reinforced with rebar caging.

“The main reason we selected Premier Steel was because of the time frame. We’re looking just over or right at a week with the road being closed,” said Steve Hardt, public works director for Sapulpa. “Conventional construction could have taken three times as long if not longer.”
